WOOLMER'S DEATH: INDIAN MEDIA MANUFACTURING STIGMA

Woolmer's death: Indian media manufacturing stigmaby Hameed Abdul Karim

By and large the Indian media goes about its profession in an objective manner. There is no doubt about that. But strangely when it comes to Pakistan, certain sections tend to go off at a tangent.

Take for example Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer's sudden demise in the West Indies. It provided the anti Pakistani sections of the Indian Media the opportunity of a lifetime. They tried to make poor Woolmer's murder - if murder it is - to look like some Pakistani cricket player or players were responsible for the crime.

END OF THE ROAD FOR BUSH

End of the Road for Bush?

by Hameed Abdul Karim

A whole lot of analysts knew the American regime was aware of possible hijackings, according to numerous news items flashing across the globe on the Internet.

And quite a few, substantiating their allegations with plausible evidence, charged that Israel was behind September 9 – 11.

AHMADINEJAD: WHAT HE SAID......

This is with reference to an article appearing in The Island on April 23 2009 under the heading ‘Israel Pledges to protect itself from ‘new holocaust’ threat posed by Iran’s nuclear programme’ in which the extreme rightist Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu had vowed to protect Israel from the so called Iranian nuclear threat.

Islam is Not a Violent Religion

Islam is not a violent Religion

By Hameed Abdul Karim

Some years ago there was a controversy among Muslims in London and quite a few of them were upset and annoyed over it. So a TV crew came over to interview Muslims about their stand on this controversy one day after Jummah but, to my surprise, not a single Muslim fell for the overtures of the anchorman, scampering from one Muslim to another to get his 'story' for the evening news. He couldn't get a single Muslim and I was happy in the thought that the Muslims were wise to the media game.

Zionist lobby stamps its authority on Obama
By Hameed Abdul Karim

If anybody wanted to know if the America-Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), the Zionist Lobby in the US, would be any different under the Obama administration, then the answer came when Charles W. ("Chas") Freeman last week 'withdrew' his appointment to the post of chairman of the US National Intelligence Council under pressure from the lobby.

'How many times can a man turn his head and pretend he just doesn't see' - Bob Dylan
By Hameed Abdul Karim

The line from Bob Dylan's immortal song 'Blowin' in the Wind' made famous by legends like Stevie Wonder and the trio Peter, Paul and Mary and himself among others takes on a new and poignant relevancy in the context of Israel's vicious attacks on the Palestinians in Gaza.
The man who is supposed to see the misery of the Palestinians and do something to redress their plight as they suffer yet another Israeli pogrom is the UN secretary general Ban Ki Moon.
Instead he comes in front of TV cameras and repeats the mantra that Israel has the right to defend itself against terror and then went on to blame regional players who he claims have not done enough to bring peace to the Middle East with nary a word of criticism of Israel.

Doubts Deepen on 9/11 Attacks

Doubts deepen on 9/11attacks
By Hameed Abdul Karim
There have been so many stories on 9/11 that one does not know which one to pick. But one thing is sure, all the stories - at least in what is called the 'mainstream media', stress on one thing. It was a terrorist outrage carried out by al-Qaida headed by Osama bin Laden. There are no holes in the so many stories that might suggest otherwise.

Islamic perspective on conversion

Islamic perspective on conversion
Hameed Abdul Karim.
The Blessed Prophet Muhammad was the last Messenger of God Almighty, or religious founder according to those of other faiths, making his advent about 625 years after Jesus Christ the Messiah. It is a historical fact that Islam has spread rapidly ever since Prophet Muhammad received the first revelation. Large parts of Africa, and nations like Egypt, Turkey, Iraq, Syria and Persia fell under the sway of Islam no sooner they came in contact with the simple and irresistible tenets of the faith, with “God is One” and “Muhammad is the Messenger of that God” as its rallying cry.

Not many paid any attention when Ayatollah Khomeini predicted Russia’s break up. But lo and behold, the USSR did cease to exist as Khomeini said it would. When his prediction came to pass, some people thought he had the ‘gift of prophecy’. But he quashed these rumours saying he was only going by events as he saw them.

Public Apology Needed for Insulting Christ on TV

Public apology needed for insulting Christ on TV

All Muslims hold Jesus Christ in high esteem as one of the mightiest messengers of God. In fact no Muslim could be categorised as a believer, if he or she rejects him, his miraculous birth or any of his many miracles, all of which are mentioned in the Holy Quran.

As the American sponsored Israeli attack on the Gaza Strip in Palestine and the attack on Lebanon with the blessings of UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and the support of the ‘international community’ including poodle Blair’s Britain, continues to take its toll the western media has swung into action drumming up support and sympathy for Israel.

Letter: Gaza Flotilla Story

Letter: Gaza Flotilla Story

The Sunday Leader

In response to an article on a Australian Sri Lankan shot in the Gaza Flotilla raid,

Hameed Abdul Karim writes:

I wish to point to an error in your reporting on the news item about the attack on Sri Lankan Australian Ahmad Luqman. You have stated that the Israeli soldiers opened fire after they were attacked by civilians on board the Mavi Maramara. Unfortunately this is not true. It was reported extensively in the world media (except the US and of course the Israeli media) that the Israeli commandos opened fire before they landed on board killing two activists according to Paul Larudee, an American on board the humanitarian ship.
Ahmad Luqman, who happens to be a nephew of former minister Imtiaz Bakeer Markar, says just about the same thing in the documentary televised by Al-Jazeera.

America's Enemy - America's Media

Daily News Online

US President Thomas Jefferson once said that ‘the security for all (Americans) is in the free press. That was when more than 80 percent of the US media were independent. But by 1983 there were only about 50 corporations which controlled more than half of all information, knowledge and entertainment companies in the US. In 1987, the figure fell dramatically to 27. Today the picture for a free media is even grimmer with more corporations merging in the wake of the recession.

Will the world stand up for Palestinian children?

Hameed Abdul Karim

palestinina 'In the future if I grow up, and in Gaza it's an achievement to grow up, because death is standing at your doorstep, I want to defend the rights of children - Yasmeen (Born 1996. In 'Gaza Monologues)
The stories we hear of little children being forced to become 'child soldiers' in armed combat are as horrible as you can imagine. We shudder at such cruelty. When thoughts such as these creep into our minds we tend to tremble and have a tendency to reach out to our children and hug them in a protective sort of way. But then how much do we care about children who are killed in their beds or in their schools or as they play in the modest open space they can find? Do we feel for them? Apparently not.

The TV Muslim – a comment

The TV Muslim  – a comment

Mr. Hameed Abdul Karim has written a very sensible to ‘The Island’ of 16/9 and I feel that it should be read by all TV stations in this country because it is of utmost importance to all concerned.
Let me begin with a sincere apology to a fellow human being who very correctly felt insulted by the stupidity of TV station for telecasting such an idiotic programme depicting an imaginary "Thambiya" who mispronounces the Sinhalese words to cause hilarity among the blue-blooded Sinhalese audience – giving them a feeling, probably, of superiority

Gaza Crossing - People's power in action

In his book 'Hegemony or Survival', Noam Chomsky says at the height of US military plans to attack Iraq, the press reported that 'there may still be two superpowers on the planet: the United States and world public opinion'.
At that point of time such a statement might have looked absurd despite the fact that there were huge protests against American plans to bomb Iraq - already devastated by UN sanctions sponsored by the 'civilised world' with the US giving it the leadership.

Cricket and Patriotism

CRICKET AND PATRIOTISM

Hameed Abdul Karim

This was in response to an editorial in the Sri Lankan Daily Mirror

Your DM editorial ‘Cricket, Nation and Religion’ of August 11, 2009 insinuates certain sections of Muslims as being unpatriotic because of their support for Pakistan .  You even go to the extent of blaming the Islamic faith for this aberration. Let me remind you that the Pakistani’s turned up in their numbers to support Sri Lanka in the World Cup final in Lahore where Sri Lanka beat Australia . If faith was a motivating factor, then the Pakistani’s should have supported Australia because of the kinship between Islam and Christianity. Australians wouldn’t have been far off the mark if they accused Pakistanis of regionalism when they supported Sri Lanka .

The Tale of Two Leaders

The Tale Of Two Leaders

Hameed Abdul Karim

In the context of this simple truism one has only to look at President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai, and find in him a goodie-goodie guy who never fails to please his Western masters. “You would find Western leaders calling on him on and off and praising him sky high for ‘laudable efforts in bringing in democracy to his people.’Prof. Ismail Faruqi had a simple yardstick to judge third world leaders. He said if the Western media, an extension of Western imperialism, said that such and such third world leader was a good man then it would mean he is a stooge of the West and if they said he was baddie he was indeed a good man, a man and a leader who has chosen to work for the betterment of his people.

Negative Portrayal of Muslims on Teledramas

by Hameed Abdul Kareem

A few days ago, while switching channels on the idiot box, I happened to come across a scene in a tele-drama, where a Sinhalese boy was demanding some item or the other for free from the ‘mudalali’ seated at the cashier table at a ‘Thambi kade’. The ‘mudalali’ happened to be one of those stereotyped Muslims depicted so often in movies and on TV programmes.

Our ‘Thambi Mudalali’ was portrayed wearing a ‘Thambi’ prayer cap and had a beard that covered his entire chin and yes, he carried a huge pot belly and wore a tight white banian to complete the picture of your standard TV Muslim.

Was Jinnah Wrong

Was Jinnah wrong?
 By Hameed Abdul Karim

Up until now one could blame Muhammed Ali Jinnah for the breakup of India. Blaming a Hindu was taboo as Jaswant Singh has come to realise much to his grief.

Singh has committed the ultimate crime. Up until now no Indian scholar or politician had spoken in public about the roles Hindus played in the partitioning of India, though they may probably have conceded that aspect of history in private discussions.

Here's some good news and some bad news. The good news is that Julian Assange, founder of Wikileaks, is to be awarded the Pulitzer Prize for journalism. And the bad news is that I am joking. But jokes aside, Julian Assange really deserves the Pulitzer Prize like nobody else for his exposure of the US army's killing of unarmed Iraqi civilians in Baghdad. Among the dead were Reuter reporter Shaeed Chamgh and his driver Nameer Noor - Eldeen who were 'armed' with cameras.

Will Barack Obama Support Racism?

Q: Name the country that legally prevents its ‘Citizens’ from marrying someone who lives outside the country?

A: Israel
Will Barack Obama support racism?

The Jewish state brought this law to prevent Palestinians, living under its benign occupation and its much publicised democratic ideals, from marrying members of their tribes living in ‘free’ Gaza or the ‘freer’ still West bank.
Perhaps one of the most shocking aspects of Israel ‘racism’ is the ‘fence’ the Jewish state has constructed to separate Palestinians from the Chosen People. Though there are many similarities between South Africa’s Apartheid system, and Jewish/Christian Zionism, it is said the South African Whites didn’t go so far as Israel has in perpetrating its pernicious racist policies. This fence’, which is larger, longer and higher than the Berlin wall, has hardly had any mention in the Western media as did the latter.

Naqba the Palestinian Catastrophe - Daily News - 26 October 2010

Naqba The Palestinian catastrophe, Daily News 26/10/2010

If I were an Arab leader, I would never sign an agreement with Israel . It is normal; we have taken their country. There has been Anti - Semitism, the Nazis, Hitler, Auschwitz , but was that their fault? They see but one thing: we have come and we have stolen their country. Why would they accept that? - David Ben Gurion

Hameed Abdul Karim

Holocaust is the word the Jews uses to describe Nazi Germany’s incineration and expulsion of their people. Naqba or dispossession is the word the Palestinians have coined to describe the slaughter and expulsion of their people by the Zionist Jews in Occupied Palestine in 1948. Europe ’s crimes against the Jewish people have ended. Israel ’s atrocities against the Palestinian people continue unabated backed by the very same Western nations that committed the crimes against the Jews.

India Needs Freedom from Kashmir

'India Needs Freedom from Kashmir'

Hameed Abdul Karim

The Kashmir valley has exploded - again. This time it began when the Indian Para military force, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), shot dead a school going child in Sopore. The Kashmiris came out on to streets in protest which in turn led to the deaths of more than eight unarmed civilians - mostly youth when Indian forces fired live bullets to suppress the protests.

The valley echoes with the familiar sounds of gun fire and shouts of Azadi (freedom) mingled with the heartbreaking wails of mothers who mourn the deaths of more of their sons in this latest bout of violence that India has generated with its occupation of Kashmir. And all that an uncaring government can do is look for scapegoats to blame for a fault that is its own.

Islam hater Pastor Terry Jones of The Dove Church in Florida would never have imagined he would be such a world wide ‘celebrity’ when he hit upon the idea of burning copies of the Qur’an to commemorate 9-11.

Luckily for him the US Corporate Media latched on to the story and made him the American hero in line with type of stuff that Hollywood creates to grab your attention. At the initial stage of his campaign they made him ‘act’ like Clint Eastwood. The only thing missing was a cowboy hat and cigar dangling loosely from the corner of his mouth. The guy thought no end of himself.

Why No Why

Friday, 17 December 2010 00:00

By Hameed Abdul Karim

Global terror experts’ contention that the Wikileaks exposures might jeopardize US’ counter terrorism operations raises a paramount question. What is the need for counter terrorism operations in the first place? If the US stops its global hegemony plans as detailed in its Plan for the New American Century (PNAC), then there would be no need for such measures.
Osama bin Laden fought the Russians and in that fight the Americans and the entire Western world supported the Mujahedeen of which he was one of the leaders. Ronald Reagan called them brave freedom fighters and mocked the Russians when they called them terrorists. Today the Mujahedeen (notice how the word Mujahedeen has been dropped out of the discourse after Americas invasion and occupation) are called by other names because they are fighting the American occupation of Afghanistan and so the legitimacy of freedom fighters is now taken away from them. Instead they are ‘terrorists’ better still ‘Islamic terrorists’. See the hypocrisy? Or are we going to go into another bout of harangue with nice juicy words and catch phrases like democracy, freedom, the rule of law, justice.
